What are some of your favorite hobbies / activities outside of the office?

I enjoy biking on local trails with my family. I have been spending the warmer months building out a backyard vegetable patch and helping friends and neighbors do the same. I also love bringing the green inside with house plants.

Gene therapy has so much promise to not only treat but also cure diseases. I connect with the idea of making that a reality by providing reliable and comprehensive ways to assess unintended changes to the genome and make safer therapies.

Research and development of methods capturing off-targets in gene editing

It’s cool that we can improve security of gene editing and cell therapy.  I am proud to be part of the team.

What are some of your favorite hobbies / activities outside of the office?

When I’m not dreaming up new workflows and process optimizations, I can often be found at my workbench, tinkering with electronics, or fabricating mechanical parts for bicycles, motorcycles, or the house.

Gene editing is an incredibly power tool, and it’s critical to use these tools safely and efficiently. We are looking out for patients and scientists the world over, ensuring the application of gene editing technologies are held to the highest standards.

I knew that my skills sets would be fully utilized, I knew that I would sleep well knowing that the company’s mission is aligned with my morals, and I knew that the size and stage of organizational development was at a point where things are very exciting.

What are some of your favorite hobbies / activities outside of the office?

My favorite hobbies are reading good books and travel.

Why did you join SeQure?

Gene editing is the future of gene therapy and here at SeQure we can make this process safer and more reliable.

Tom has 15 years of experience in clinical diagnostics across a range of organization types, including start-up, large commercial laboratory, major academic medical center, and non-profit research institute. Prior to joining SeQure Dx, Tom held a number of key roles and leadership positions at Quest Diagnostics, within the molecular genetics and genomics business areas.  A selection of products at Quest under his leadership included Whole Exome Sequencing Plus CNV Analysis, NewbornDx, and AncestryHealth.  Previous positions included various roles at the Broad Institute, Good Start Genetics (acquired by Invitae), Harvard Medical School and MGH.

Prior to joining industry, Tom completed his PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Tom went on to do a clinical molecular genetics fellowship at the Harvard Medical School, followed by postdoctoral research training at Harvard Medical School and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

John Truesdell has extensive life science and leadership experience, built from 14 years in commercial, business development and lifecycle management positions within the medical device and diagnostics industries. Prior to SeQure Dx, John held key roles at Foundation Medicine (FMI), including Tissue Diagnostic Lifecycle Leader and Head of Marketing, leading the preparation and launch of FoundationOne CDx. He was an instrumental contributor to FMI’s initial companion diagnostic strategy and early biopharma partnerships. John is also a US Navy SEAL combat veteran with over a decade of experience leading teams in austere locations throughout the world.

What are some of your favorite hobbies and activities outside of the office?

Biking, gardening, hiking, winter camping, and spending time with my children.

A small company with great potential. In a start-up company, you need to wear many hats, I love the challenge of trying to keep up with all the facilities and lab operations projects, there is never a dull moment.
